Copy one LTWG (Landsat Technical Working Group) 8mm tape to a three-tape 3480 set and extract needed metadata from the header files. The metadata, which is split into the .scene and .archv files, will be copied to the directory /dg3/work/dsb/data/lsceosnldc/ for database population.
- PROJECT
- Project. The project for which the tapes are being copied.
- CODE
- Associated project code. This corresponds to the entry for PROJECT.
The operators are prompted to mount an 8mm LGSOWG/CEOS formatted tape. Image data is read from the tape and is copied to three output 3480s. The metadata will reflect the project name and code given, as will the generated tape labels for the output 3480s.
read off of it. This data consists of a Volume Descriptor File, a leader file for each band, image data for each band, a trailer file, and a supplementary Volume Descriptor file. Once the entire 8mm tape has been read, it is unmounted and the function prompts the operators to mount three scratch 3480 tapes, in succession. The image data is spread across the 3480 tapes as described by the format document "LTWG Format for Thematic Mapper CCT - Full Scene", where the first physical volume holds the first three bands, the second physical volume holds the next three bands, and the third volume holds the last band. The output tape locations as given by the operators are stored as part of the metadata (the .archv file.)
Once the output tapes have been written, the function extracts metadata from the image's Volume Descriptor and leader files and writes out standard metadata .scene and .archv files, which are then copied to the remote directory for use by Data Management.
