Zeh User Notes

Operators:

When a job is submitted to edcsnw29, several steps occur:

Plotting many copies of a job

Users have been instructed to:

  1. Select the number of copies to be 5 to 10
  2. Select the KEEP option (which keeps the color separation files online)
  3. Submit the job
  4. Call Production Control at 6552 with the following information:

The operators can resubmit the color separation files directly to the media queue as many times as necessary to generate the required number of copies, then delete the separation files. This is done by typing:

This re-runs the exact request to the media queue that the user did, including the same number of copies. This command can be repeated as many times as necessary right away (ie., you don't have to wait for one job to finish before running zplot.sh again). You should see a new job appear in the media queue for each time you run zplot.sh. In the event that you need to make changes to the job, this can be done ahead of time by modifying the .xsp file that controls the job (note that this will be the fname-tstamp_001.xsp file, not the fname-tstamp.xsp file). This is done by typing:

Where parameter=value is any valid entry in a .par file (copies=5, plotter=paper, keep=yes, etc.). Since all of these jobs have the same name (ie., tstamp) all of the output is kept in the fname-tstamp_001.log file. Clicking on 'Show Long Details' shows the history of all the steps performed. When the jobs are completed, the color separation files should be deleted by typing:

Disk Full Problems:

There is approximately 800Mb available for processing plots. For each job, there is approximately another 20% of diskspace required for intermediate files. The Zeh software doesn't automatically clean up failed jobs, so it is possible for the disk to fill up. If this happens, all subsequent jobs will fail without the user being notified. The failures continue until the operators clean up the files and restart the processing queues.

To find files that can be deleted, cd into the $ZPSWRK directory and do a ls-l | more. Files of type .rsb, .rsc, .rsm, .rsy, .hp, .ps, .eps, and .cgm that are not today's date might be files that are left from earlier failed jobs. Checking the .log files should help determine whether or not the files are 'bad'. Also, core files should be deleted.
